Environmental activities

The audited environmental management system encompasses all functional areas at Lufthansa CityLine - from engineering and administration to flight operations. Continuous improvement is the top priority here. In addition to the constant expansion of the CityLine fleet with new and thus environmentally more compatible aircraft, further reductions of noise and emissions are key environmental goals.

The significant environmental effects of flight operations are the consumption of natural resources in the form of kerosene, and the related emissions of pollutants. Additionally, noise emissions are associated with flying.

The more an aircraft is deployed, the more it needs to be maintained. This is because specific maintenance events must by law be carried out once a pre-determined number of flight hours has been reached.

Environmental aspects were taken into account right from the start in planning all building conversions and installations of new equipment that CityLine initiated over the last few years.
